I am sad to report that Karen Stenberg Denny passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2024.  She suffered with a lengthly illness since the beginning of 2023.  She and Dick Denny lived in Irvine, CA for many years.  We have been close friends since the 10th grade and continued that friendship throughout our entire lives since high school up until her passing last Sunday morning.  I am not sure what information you place on the website except the fact that she passed.  It was just two days ago so I don’t have any information about a service at this time.

60th Reunion

Newport Beach Marriott Bayview

September 18, 2021

Our trip driving towards the West Coast started with our temps 95-106 across Arizona, when we arrived in Newport Beach the temps were in the 70s………such a nice change.  After several postponements we were actually heading for the reunion.

A big thanks to Carole Langstaff; she was our “eyes on the hotels”.   Carole did a review of several hotels in the area and forwarded pictures to us.  We were especially interested in the Newport Beach Marriott Bayview hotel because of its location.  It was on the smaller side but still a nice venue for our reunion.  With Carole’s recommendations that was the one we chose.  The Island Ballroom seemed the perfect size.

The rooms were suites (beds in one room with a TV……..desk, couch, TV in another) and very roomy with the usual Marriott appointments.  Our room rate was $139 (the regular rate for one night was $359) and the hotel kept that price for us including sales tax from 2019.  It was nice to have a shower AND a tub.  The staff was very accommodating although they really needed more help in certain areas……like the bar!

Saturday started with our social on the Island Terrace from noon till 4pm.  Classmates picked up their packets of Welcome Letter, badges, tent cards, photographer cards and a list of who was attending.

At 6pm we had cocktails on the Terrace……still passing out packets to classmates coming for dinner.  The photographer took a group photo of the classmates just before we
went into the banquet room.

Our dinner was held in the Island Ballroom, adjacent to the Terrace, at 7pm, with one wall of glass and a view of the Back Bay.  The round tables had a white table cloth with black napkins.  In the center was a mirrored round, 3 votive candles, and an orchid plant.   Each table had a list of deceased classmates.  The orchid plants were taken home by someone at that table who had the closest birthday to Sept 18.

After everyone had been seated, Monica Marguglio Panno took the microphone and thanked everyone for attending, explained who would get to take an orchid home, and a general welcome to all.

The menu consisted of

Freshly Baked Rolls and Butter

Classic Caesar Salad

Baby Spinach Salad with Strawberries, Walnuts, and Balsamic Vinaigrette Dressing

Mahi Mahi with Basil Glaze and Raspberry Vin Sauce

Montreal Steak with Tomato Basil Confit

Herb Lemon Risotto, Roasted Potatoes, Broccolini, and Asparagus

Petits Fours

Coffee and Assorted Teas

Sunday morning found several classmates returning luggage to their cars to head home.  More hugs and goodbyes were shared.

Most attendees are interested in having a 65th reunion in 2025 which is just 4 years away.  Hopefully we will have a better turnout and COVID will be a distant ugly memory.

We do rely on emails and letters to get reunion info out to you.  Please keep us updated should your contact info change.  And a reply………yes or no……….. to anything we send is always helpful for our planning.

 Thank you for your support,

Dan & Penney Marks

Subject: Bob's Big Boy

Fellow graduates, we came upon this Bob's Big Boy icon while driving in Parker, Colorado. The store was asking $3000 for it; so my wife, Cory, took this photo of "Bob and Big Boy" instead.
Blessings to you all,
Bob Moore
